What are Clear Braces Made of?

Beauty face of the young beautiful woman

Clear braces, such as Invisalign, use plastic aligners as an alternative to the metal brackets and wires that conventional braces require. These aligners are made of a special plastic that doesn’t irritate the soft tissues of the mouth. Invisalign offers more than just discreet bite correction and comfort. Here is more about the material used to make these aligners.

Invisalign Aligner Plastic

Invisalign makes its aligners from a clear medical-grade plastic that is completely non-toxic. The plastic is free of BPA, or bisphenol A, so it does not present risks of hormonal disruption. Patients have to wear each stage of aligners for weeks, so Invisalign makes the aligners highly durable.

How to Care for Aligners

Even with the dependable design and materials used for Invisalign aligners, a certain level of care is beneficial to avoid damaging the appliances during treatment. For example, the aligners should be removed before consumption of anything other than water. Every day, patients should wash their aligners using a soft-bristled toothbrush, cold water, and soap. Toothpaste and hot water should not be used because they can cloud and distort the aligners, respectively.

The aligners used for Invisalign treatment are to thank for improved comfort, preferred appearance, and oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment. You can schedule a consultation with our orthodontist to find out more about the aligners.
